Yes, Victor, There Is A Jesus Christ

“Yes, Victor, There is a Jesus Christ”

Dear Editor,

I am nine years old. Some of my friends say there is no Jesus Christ. Some say he is dead. Dad says, “If you see it in the Bible it’s so.” Please tell me the truth, is there a Jesus Christ?

Dear Victor,

Your friends are wrong. They have been touched by the distrust of an uncertain age. They do not believe unless they can see clearly and understand fully. Do you know there have been more songs composed and sung about the unseen Jesus Christ than any other man that lived? The truth and knowledge of Jesus Christ is gained by faith and hearing the Word of God.

Yes, Victor, there is a Jesus Christ. He lives as certainly as love, kindness, and friendship exist. Alas, how sad would be the world if there was no Jesus Christ! It would be as sad as if there were no Victors. There would be no childlike faith then, no hope, no love to make bearable this existence. We would have no pleasure except in sense and sight. The eternal light of the Holy Spirit which fills the children of God would be extinguished.

Not believe in Jesus Christ? You might as well not believe in the wind! You might get your Dad to hire men to watch all the trees and catch the wind as it blows about the leaves. But what would that prove? Nobody today sees the wind or Jesus Christ, but that is not a sign that there is no Jesus Christ. The most true things in the world are those that neither children nor men can see.

Did you ever see angels fly through the air? Of course not, but that does not prove they are not there. No one can know or dream of all the invisible wonders in the world.

You can take apart a music box to see what makes the sounds inside, but the strongest man could not tear apart the cover of the unseen world. Only faith, hope, and love can push aside that curtain and see the beauty and glory of salvation in Heaven beyond. Is it all real? Yes, Victor, in this world there is nothing else as real and abiding.

No Jesus Christ? Thank God he lives, and lives forever. A thousand years from now, Victor, nay ten times ten thousand years from now, he will continue to make glad the hearts of his children. Our joy in the Lord Jesus Christ need never end because he is endless and it was for us that he came!

And Jesus called a little child unto him, and set him in the midst of them, and said, Verily I say unto you, Except ye be converted, and become as little children, ye shall not enter into the kingdom of heaven. Whosoever therefore shall humble himself as this little child, the same is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven. And whoso shall receive one such little child in my name receiveth me. Matthew 18:2-5

In 1897, a child named Virginia wrote to a New York newspaper with the question, “Is there a Santa Claus?” The editor, Francis P. Church, wrote a response to Virginia giving her the assurance of Santa Claus’ existence.  Upon reading the response, I chose to substitute the attributes of Jesus Christ in place of Santa Claus. Many people today question the existence of Jesus Christ. May this adaptation give hope of His most Blessed Assurance.
