The State of Suzie

Sister, Dementia, Senior Citizens, Unrequited Love

“The State of Suzie”

I believe he never really loved her. She never stopped loving him. I believe he drove her to this state of being, the unresolved state of unrequited love.

“Unrequited love does not die; it’s only beaten down to a secret place where it hides, curled and wounded.” ~Elle Newmark

Been thinking about sister Suzie. Sometimes in some places the elders are ignored. They’re still alive, hearts are beating, lungs are breathing! Do they need to apologize for taking up space?! Breaks my heart to see her in this aged state. Sometimes a vacant look, sometimes an out of context statement…but then totally focused on us and her memories.

“Do not cast me off in the time of old age; do not forsake me when my strength fails. Now also when I am old and grayheaded, oh God, do not forsake me.” Psalm 71:9,18a

“He has torn, but He will heal us; He has stricken, but He will bind us up. After two days He will revive us; on the third day He will raise us up, that we may live in His sight.” Hosea 6:1-2
